Sometimes the best way to find what you want is to tell the market you're looking. Wanted listings flip the usual classifieds model: buyers post specifics — a 1978–1982 Cessna 182RG in Texas, a serviceable Lycoming O-360 core, a hangar at KAPA — and sellers who have a match reach out.

This category is especially useful for rare or specific requests: a particular vintage, an STC-specific airframe, a salvage part for a type that hasn't been produced in decades, or a regional service need. If you've been watching the regular listings for months and haven't found the right fit, posting a wanted ad costs less than a bad weekend cross-country and often shakes loose inventory that was never publicly listed.

Sellers: it pays to browse this category weekly. Aircraft, engines, and parts that don't get enough views in the main listings sometimes sell within days when matched to an active wanted ad.

How to write a wanted ad that actually gets responses

Be specific. 'Wanted: small airplane' is worthless. 'Wanted: 1975–1985 Piper Arrow, IFR-equipped, damage history ok if documented, under 4000 TTAF, under $90K, hangared within 500nm of KAUS' will get three serious replies inside a week.

Post a budget range. Sellers won't spend their time preparing a pitch if they can't tell whether you're in the ballpark. A realistic range also helps filter out aspirational requests that waste everyone's time.

Include location and willingness to travel. 'Anywhere in the U.S., I'll ferry' is different from 'within 200nm of home field, I'm not picking up the airplane myself.' Both are fine; just say which.

Update your ad when your needs change or you close a deal. Wanted ads that have been stale for six months reduce the credibility of the whole category.

How long does a wanted ad stay active?

90 days on standard, 365 days on premium. You can edit the ad at any time, and you're encouraged to mark it closed once you've found what you were looking for.
